Dr. Juan Russo is an interventional cardiologist and clinician investigator at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. He is also an assistant professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Ottawa.

Background

Dr. Russo earned his medical degree at McMaster University in 2011. He completed residencies in internal medicine at the University of Toronto, and adult cardiology at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. He then completed his fellowship training in interventional cardiology at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, and subspecialty training in complex higher-risk interventions and advanced hemodynamic care at Columbia University Irving Medical Center.

Dr. Russo joined the Division of Cardiology at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute in 2019.

Dr. Russo has served on the Shock Committee at both Columbia University and the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.

Dr. Russo is a recipient of the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions Young Investigator Award in 2017. In 2018, Dr. Russo was awarded the UOHI Vered-Beanlands Endowed Fellowship.

Research and clinical interests

Clinical

Dr. Russo has a clinical interest in higher-risk coronary interventions and cardiac critical care.

Research

His primary research focus is developing neuroprotective strategies for the early management of comatose survivors of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.
