Grandpa’s Ride set to reach $100,000 milestone in fight against heart disease

Ottawa, July 21, 2017 — When it comes to giving with heart, nobody does it better than Dan Shipman and his gang! For the past seven years, the heart-transplant recipient has been fundraising for the Ottawa Heart Institute. Every year, he hosts his popular fundraiser, Grandpa’s Ride. The ride is filled with hundreds of motorcycle enthusiasts of all backgrounds who bike around beautiful Gatineau to raise money for the Heart Institute.

This year is set to be another great success as the group reaches an important milestone in its effort to support the work done by the Heart Institute. Daniel Shipman will announce that over $100,000 has been raised over the years to help fight heart disease and ensure that the Heart Institute’s teams continue to provide world-class care, and achieve vital breakthroughs in cardiovascular research.

“On April 9, 2011, my life was changed forever. Not only did the Heart Institute give me a second chance at life, but this journey has opened my eyes and has driven my thirst to give back,” said Daniel Shipman. “For the past seven years, and for the rest of my life, I want to make sure that those living with heart disease, and their loved ones, continue to have access to world-class care here in Ottawa-Gatineau!”

Dan Shipman has become one of the Heart Institute’s greatest allies. He visits patients who are waiting for new hearts, providing them and their families with much support and reassurance. While he hosts fundraisers throughout the year, his biggest event is Grandpa’s Ride.
