AHA 2012: Heart Institute News and More

Once again, the University of Ottawa Heart Institute had more than 40 clinical and research presentations on the program at the annual American Heart Association Scientific Sessions. These, along with other major developments in the world of cardiovascular medicine, made for a lively conference.

Building on a body of work developed at the Heart Institute, Seibert and colleagues showed that low blood levels of the protein HSP27 is associated with coronary artery disease (CAD) in patients and is predictive of future adverse events such as heart attack. Additionally, they found that raising HSP27 levels in mice reduces the extent of CAD, making it a potential target for treatment.
Research
