October 29, 1991 was a royal day at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. As part of the Canadian tour that Prince Charles and Princess Diana made that year, the Princess of Wales visited the Heart Institute on the Ottawa leg of their travels.
Accompanied by Mila Mulroney, wife of Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, and guided by Heart Institute founder Dr. Wilbert Keon, the Princess saw many aspects of the Institute. Artificial heart research, a prevention program and clinical wards were all on the agenda.
“She was a lovely lady,” said Dr. Keon as he recalled the visit. “The patients and staff were very excited to have her here.” The many well-wishers who attended the visit would agree.
