Responsibilities

Reporting to the Billing Manager, the Advanced Financial Assistant is responsible for the processing and reconciliation of medical billing and will help support billing efficiencies through monitoring, training and communications with staff and staff physicians. A strong medical billing and/or clinical background is needed to support the functions of this job. This job is 50% billing and 50% support for the Billing Manager.

Additional areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:

  • Medical Billing including OHIP, RAMQ, Third Party, Submissions, Errors and Reconciliation and Payment Collections
  • Revenue Reconciliation and Audits
  • Running, Analyzing and distributing monthly reports
  • Any additional support as required by Billing Manager

While our employees work in offices within the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, they are employed by Ottawa Academic Cardiology Management Corp.

Basic requirements

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field
  • 3-5 years medical billing and/or medical administrative experience
  • Knowledge of Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care Schedule of Benefits
  • Preference for experience in hospital setting billing or sub-specialty medical billing, including cardiology
  • Interest in data analysis and troubleshooting
  • Advanced knowledge of computers, including MS Office 365, clinical information systems, Teams, and Sharepoint. Knowledge of new computer software requires continuous learning and willingness to take part in various skill acquisition workshops in order to remain efficient in meeting job requirements
  • Bilingualism an asset
  • Management experience an asset
  • Knowledge of EPIC considered a strong asset
