Cardiac Amyloidosis Clinic

The Cardiac Amyloidosis Clinic is a specialized outpatient clinic for patients diagnosed with or who have suspected amyloidosis in the heart. The goal of the program is to coordinate patient care with other medical clinics and specialists who care for amyloidosis patients, including access to new transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTR) disease-modifying therapies.

In working collaboratively with other medical clinics and specialists who care for amyloidosis patients, this program focuses on assessment, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up care and patient education.

What to expect

When your doctor refers you to the Cardiac Amyloidosis Clinic, a Heart Institute specialist reviews your information. A member of our clinic staff will then contact you to book a clinic appointment with a nurse or cardiologist.

The nurse or cardiologist will review your medical history and discuss your current medication with you. They will ask you about your symptoms, perform a physical exam, and they will provide you with a care plan.

The doctor may order some blood tests. These tests can be done at the Heart Institute on the same day of your visit. The doctor may order additional tests you can schedule before you leave.

Our clinic staff are pleased to offer all listed below.

  • Medical assessment and follow-up
  • Personalized testing and treatment to best meet patient needs
  • Ongoing patient education about the disease process
  • Coordination and navigation of other medical clinics and specialists
  • Ongoing support through follow-up visits and telephone monitoring

As part of the clinical assessment, a variety of tests may be arranged, including blood tests, an ECG, and specific heart scans such as an echocardiogram, MRI or nuclear scan.
