David Birnie, MD, to lead Heart Institute’s Division of Cardiology

The University of Ottawa Heart Institute is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. David Birnie as the new head of its Division of Cardiology. Appointed for a five-year mandate, Dr. Birnie succeeds Dr. Rob Beanlands.

Dr. Birnie was educated in Scotland and received his medical degree (MB ChB) from the Glasgow University in 1990. First recruited to the Heart Institute in 2002 as a staff cardiac electrophysiologist and clinician investigator, Dr. Birnie was later appointed to deputy head of the Division of Cardiology.
