Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager of Application Development and Support, the data engineer develops processes that connect to various clinical system or research databases to perform data collection, extraction, transformation and load functions, and make processed data accessible for data scientists and researchers. This may include participation in building data collection applications, consultation with clinicians/researchers/managers to understand business needs, design/re-engineer data structure, coding of ETL process, and testing.

The standard application development platform at the Heart Institute includes Ebase Technology’s Xi platform and Postgres database. However, the selected candidate is expected to work with various data sources that are hosted in Oracle, MS SQL, MySQL, MS Access, Excel and etc.

Major areas of direct responsibility include

  • Data process management
  • Data modeling
  • Database architecture review
  • Data pipeline (ETL tools) development
  • Design and implement data collection tools/applications
  • On demand data reporting

Basic requirements

  • College diploma or University Degree in database engineering, computer science or a related field;
  • Strong experience with Data process tools and best practices;
  • Strong knowledge of database design methodologies and architectures, preferably in Postgres environment;
  • Strong experience with PL/SQL scripting;
  • Knowledge of scripting languages;
  • Knowledge of application development lifecycle.
