The Mentorship Award recognizes a professor or advisor who has demonstrated outstanding mentorship in the field of exercise science or physiology at a Canadian institution. It celebrates those who have made significant contributions to guiding and nurturing the development of their students and/or young investigators, particularly in the last three years. The accolade honours their commitment to fostering excellence and inspiring the next generation of professionals in exercise science.

“This award is, and will likely be for my career, the one which has the greatest personal impact. I am extremely grateful for the trainees and staff I have been able to teach, support, and learn from in my years at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and University of Ottawa,” said Dr. Jennifer Reed, who is the program chair of Cardiac Rehabilitation, a scientist in the Division of Cardiac Prevention and Rehabilitation, and director of the Exercise Physiology and Cardiovascular Health Laboratory at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. “My own training experiences have shaped how I endeavour to support, teach, and inspire others: ‘people first’ is my beacon.”

Dr. Reed is also appointed as an associate professor in the School of Epidemiology and Public Health in the Faculty of Medicine, and an adjunct professor in the School of Human Kinetics in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Ottawa.

The Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology will present Dr. Reed with the award during its annual meeting, taking place from November 20-23 in Montréal, Québec.
