A live preoperative class for patients and their loved one(s) before heart surgery to join the University of Ottawa Heart Institute health care team to discuss any questions they may have while awaiting heart surgery. This class is directed to those who have seen their surgeon and are awaiting their heart surgery.

Upon completion of the session, participants should be able to:

  • Identify what to do and who to contact if they have new or worsening symptoms before their surgery.
  • Understand the interventions that can help them heal after heart surgery, including good nutrition, sternal precautions if applies, and glucose management.
  • Discuss the physical process before and after heart surgery.
