OTTAWA - National and international smoking cessation authorities will assemble in Ottawa this week to attend the 12th Annual Ottawa Conference: State-of-the-Art Clinical Approaches to Smoking Cessation, Canada’s premier event promoting the latest ideas and evidence in clinical tobacco treatment, program development and smoking cessation research.
The Ottawa Conference is organized and implemented by the Ottawa Model for Smoking Cessation (OMSC) staff of the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.
This year’s conference will address pressing issues, including:
- Cannabis: What We Know and What the Future Holds, moderated by Dr. David Hammond of University of Waterloo and featuring panellists Dr. Andrew Pipe (UOHI) and Rebecca Jesseman of the Canadian Centre for Substance Use and Addiction.
- E-cigarettes: Back to the Future, presented by Dr. Stanton Glantz of the University of California, San Francisco.
- Insights in Tobacco Trends, E-cigarettes, and Cannabis Use in Canada, presented by Jessica Reid of University of Waterloo.
- It’s Never too Late to Quit! Implementing Cessation within Cancer Centres, presented by Dr. William Evans of McMaster University.
- Smokin’ and Tokin’: Cannabis and Tobacco Co-Use 101, presented by Kate Walker of the UOHI.
This year’s proceedings take place ahead of National Non-Smoking Week, beginning January 18.
