NanoOntario is recognizing Emilio Alarcon, PhD, of the University of Ottawa Heart Institute with an award for outstanding early-career achievements in nano-related research and development. The scientist will accept his award and present a virtual lecture about his research, “From chemical kinetics to nanostructures for biomedical uses,” March 17, 2022, at 3 p.m.
NanoOntario’s awards in nanosciences and nanotechnology are bestowed annually to scientists and researchers who self-identify as women, racialized individuals, Indigenous, persons with disabilities, and members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, as well as individuals who self-identify as, or belong to, more than one of these groups.
Alarcon and team’s recent work explores using a sprayable therapy to treat heart attacks and is published and prominently featured on the cover page of the March issue of ACS Nano, a monthly, peer-reviewed, scientific journal of the American Chemical Society.
Dr. Alarcon’s research laboratory at the Heart Institute is the driver behind BEaTS Research Radio, a weekly science podcast hosted by early-career scientists and investigators.
