6th International Ottawa Heart Conference • Precision Medicine in Cardiovascular Disease

The 6th annual Ottawa International Heart Conference (April 26, 27 2018) was co-chaired by Dr. Peter Liu, and Dr. Duncan Stewart (OHRI). Planning committee members included Drs. Mireille Ouimet, Pablo Nery, Lisa Cotie, Mr. Jean Bilodeau (Patient Alumni), Ms. Judith Lachance (UOHI Communications) and representatives from Research Services (conference secretariat).
The Planning Committee was delighted to welcome international scientific leaders to the 2018 conference. The 2018 event also hosted the Wilbert J. Keon Endowed Lectureship (Dr. Victor Dzau), the inaugural Dr. Yves Marcel Lecture (Dr. Kiran Musunuru), and a Gairdner Foundation and UOHI Patient Alumni partnered Public Lecture and panel discussion on the future of healthcare.

Highlights from the two day conference include:
Dr. Yves Marcel Keynote Lecture presented by Dr. Kiran Musunuru.
This year, the program included the inaugural Dr. YvesMarcel Keynote Lecture, presented by Dr. Kiran Musunuru. This annual lecture recognizes the legacy of Dr. Marcel, a world-renowned scientist and leader in cardiovascular lipoprotein research, and who served as Chief Scientific Officer and leader of the Atherosclerosis Research Group for a number of years at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute (UOHI).
Wilbert J. Keon Endowed Lectures presented by Dr. Victor Dzau
The lectureship honours Dr. Keon, founder of the UOHI, and one of the finest cardiac surgeons of his generation. We were delighted that the esteemed Dr. Victor Dzau delivered this lectureship on “Rebuilding the Failing Heart: Molecular Approaches to Cardiac Regeneration”

Trainee specific featured sessions included Poster Presentations, Rapid Fire Oral Presentations and awards and a Trainee Mentorship Luncheon.
Public Lecture
At the conclusion of the scientific sessions, we were pleased to partner with the Gairdner Foundation and the Heart Institute Patient Alumni to provide a Public Lecture focused on the future of medicine and health innovations entitled Medical Breakthroughs: What are the Possible game-Changers in the near future? How will they impact health and society? Dr. Victor Dzau delivered this informative address which was followed by a panel discussion with members of the public, academic, health, governmental and private sectors. More than 150 members from the Ottawa community attended this lecture. This lecture was published on Facebook Live.
