Cessation experts gather in Ottawa this week for fifteenth anniversary of premier quit-smoking event

January 17, 2023

National and international smoking cessation experts will converge in the capital this week to participate in the 15th Annual Ottawa Conference: State-of-the-Art Clinical Approaches to Smoking Cessation, Canada’s premier event promoting the latest ideas and evidence in clinical tobacco treatment, program development and smoking cessation research.

This year’s event marks the return to in-person programming after two years of pandemic-imposed restrictions forced the program online. The event will take place at the Shaw Centre (55 Colonel By Drive). Virtual options to participate are also available.

Proceedings run Thursday, January 19 through Saturday, January 21, closing out Canada’s National Non-Smoking Week. Visit the Ottawa Model for Smoking Cessation (OMSC) website for more information or to download the program.

Topics include

  • Vaping and e-cigarette cessation
  • Smoking cessation technology
  • The effects of vaping during pregnancy
  • Current and potential future implications of the legal cannabis market
  • Cultural differences in addressing smoking in the Inuit population

The Ottawa Conference is an initiative of the OMSC at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.
