Diabetes Canada recognizes Heart Institute scientist for outstanding research

Dr. Erin Mulvihill is the 2024 recipient of the CIHR-INMD Early Career Researcher Partnership Award.

OTTAWA, November 21, 2024 — Diabetes Canada has selected University of Ottawa Heart Institute scientist Erin Mulvihill, PhD, as the 2024 recipient of the Early Career Researcher Partnership Award.

Diabetes Canada established the award in 1987 for the purpose of encouraging, by appropriate recognition, outstanding research conducted in Canada in the field of diabetes.

Mulvihill has expertise in lipids and lipoproteins, models of diabetes and cardiovascular disease, intestinal biology and mouse genetics. Her research program contributes to improving our understanding of the molecular events which contribute to metabolic and cardiovascular disease.

The award continues today with the support of research funding from Diabetes Canada and CIHR-INMD (Canadian Institutes of Health Research-Institute of Nutrition Metabolism and Diabetes).

“To be recognized with this award is a testament to our research team's commitment to excellence and the significant collaborative efforts of our colleagues both at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and across Canada,” said Dr. Mulvihill, who directs the Energy Substrate Metabolism Research Laboratory at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and is an associate professor in the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology, in the Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Ottawa. “I look forward to continuing our work together in advancing science and working to improve the lives of those living with diabetes.”

Dr. Mulvihill will present during the 2024 Diabetes Canada/Canadian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism’s annual conference taking place from November 20-23 at the Halifax Convention Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
