Heart Institute doctors recognized at cardiovascular congress in Montréal

Last week in Montréal, where cardiovascular healthcare practitioners and researchers gathered for the Canadian Cardiovascular Congress and Vascular 2023, Drs. Ian Burwash and Gary Small of the University of Ottawa Heart Institute (UOHI) were recognized with distinguished awards from the Canadian Cardiovascular Society (CCS).

Dr. Gary Small
Cardiologist, clinician investigator

Dans ses recherches et sa pratique clinique, le Dr Small s’intéresse notamment au recours à l’imagerie pour appuyer la prise de décisions cliniques, en particulier les stratégies d’imagerie visant à détecter le risque de maladie cardiovasculaire et de toxicité cardiaque causé par la chimiothérapie.
Dr. Small’s research and clinical interests include the use of cardiac imaging to support clinical decision-making, in particular imaging strategies to identify oncology patients at risk of cardiovascular disease and cardiac toxicity from chemotherapy.

The Canadian Cardiovascular Congress is the largest professional gathering of cardiovascular and allied health professionals in Canada. This year, it was held in conjunction with Vascular 2023, a five-day event designed to gather the broader cardiovascular community to address challenges related to patient care and the treatment of vascular-related diseases, which affect millions of Canadians annually.
