The University of Ottawa Heart Institute is updating masking requirements for patients and visitors effective September 11, 2023.
Masks are required in all units (including patient rooms), clinics and waiting rooms.
Wearing a mask remains optional in public spaces such as hallways, cafeterias, and elevators, and in other non-clinical areas such as in meeting rooms.
Patients who are feeling unwell should always wear a mask. If you are a visitor and have flu symptoms, fever or cough, please refrain from visiting the Heart Institute.
Masks will remain widely available throughout the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. In non-clinical areas, patients and visitors are encouraged to wear a mask if they choose.
The change in masking requirements is a direct result of the transmission rates of COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses. The updated requirements are consistent with similar changes made at hospitals in the region. Masking policies are adjusted as circumstances change.
We thank you for your cooperation.
