Dr. Marc Ruel, the University of Ottawa Heart Institute’s Division Head of Cardiac Surgery, has been bestowed the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society of Minimally Invasive Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeons of India. Dr. Ruel received this award in recognition of his “seminal advances in developing minimally invasive bypass grafting.”
In the 2010s, Dr. Ruel travelled to India three times to teach cardiac surgeons the minimally invasive cardiac surgery coronary artery bypass grafting technique (MICS CABG). Since then, the innovative technique has been largely adopted in India, but also in Belgium, China, Germany, Japan, Singapore, the United States, and other countries.
