Two University of Ottawa Heart Institute scientists - Emilio Alarcon, PhD, and Erin Mulvihill, PhD – will work on important projects receiving federal funding through the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada’s (NSERC) Collaborative Research and Training Experience (CREATE) Program.
Dr. Emilio Alarcon will spearhead the INterdisciplinary Training in BIOmedical TECHnologies (INTBIOTECH) project receiving upwards of $1.6M. This project is a collaboration with researchers at the University of Ottawa, Université de Montréal, École de technologie supérieure and Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, and private sector partners.
Dr. Erin Mulvihill will collaborate with Patrick MacDonald, professor in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Alberta and lead of the Canadian Islet Research and Training Network (CIRTN) project.
NSERC’s CREATE program is designed to improve training and mentoring of the next generation of Canadian researchers by improving training in areas such as professional skills, communication and collaboration, as well as by providing mentoring and experience relevant to both academic and non-academic research environments.
