Centre de méthodes de recherche en cardiologie

Les chercheurs de l’Institut de cardiologie de l’Université d’Ottawa (ICUO) peuvent compter sur l’appui du Centre de méthodes de recherche en cardiologie du début à la fin de leurs travaux, autrement dit, depuis la conception de leurs protocoles de recherche jusqu’à la rédaction des articles destinés à des revues à comité de lecture.
    
Les buts du Centre sont les suivants :

  • collaborer avec les spécialistes en recherche clinique et fondamentale à toutes les étapes de la conception, de l’élaboration, de l’exécution et de l’analyse des protocoles de recherche;
  • mettre au point des méthodes de recherche exclusives, p. ex. dans les domaines des études d’associations pangénomiques et des essais cliniques à répartition aléatoire;
  • coordonner les réunions mensuelles des spécialistes en méthodes de recherche, en recherche clinique et en recherche fondamentale (ces réunions servent, entre autres choses, à faire du remue-méninges, à discuter de la conception des études et à passer en revue les demandes de subventions);
  • élaborer des programmes de formation aux méthodes et statistiques de recherche cardiovasculaire (des cours ordinaires et des ateliers de divers niveaux sont offerts aux spécialistes en recherche clinique et en recherche fondamentale, de même qu’aux autres membres du personnel; la participation à ces cours est obligatoire dans certains cas pour les résidents en cardiologie, les boursiers en cardiologie et les spécialistes en recherche fondamentale durant leur première année);
  • établir et maintenir l’infrastructure des bases de données de recherche;
  • accroître le degré de réussite des demandes de subventions (à cette fin, le Centre passe en revue toutes ces demandes et joint à chacune d’elles une lettre d’appui de son directeur, laquelle inclut une ventilation du budget prévu pour le soutien méthodologique).

Le Centre de méthodes de recherche en cardiologie fournit ces services, d’une part, pour garantir aux chercheurs de l’ICUO l’accès aux plus récentes méthodes et techniques de conception pour leurs essais ou expériences et, d’autre part, pour veiller au plus haut degré de qualité et d’intégrité des données issues des recherches, au recours aux techniques d’analyse statistique les plus appropriées et modernes, et enfin, à l’application de bonnes pratiques cliniques.

Activités d’enseignement

Le personnel du Centre offre une formation en recherche épidémiologique et en statistiques aux résidents, aux boursiers cliniciens et aux spécialistes en recherche fondamentale de l’ICUO. Les modules de formation portent sur la conception des expériences, les méthodes statistiques fondamentales et avancées, la conception d’essais cliniques à répartition aléatoire ou autre et l’analyse de leurs résultats, la marche à suivre pour les examens systématiques et les méta-analyses, l’évaluation des technologies de la santé, les évaluations économiques et, enfin, l’élaboration et l’évaluation d’outils d’aide à la prise de décisions.

Le personnel du Centre peut aussi se charger de coordonner la formation du personnel de recherche aux procédures normalisées, qui visent à garantir que les méthodes de recherche, de même que l’intégrité et l’analyse des données, respectent et reflètent de bonnes pratiques en clinique et en laboratoire.
