Dr. Omar Abdel-Razek is a cardiologist with expertise in structural interventional cardiology at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute (UOHI). He is also appointed as an assistant professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa.
Background
Dr. Abdel-Razek completed his Bachelor of Science degree with Honours at Memorial University of Newfoundland, earning a merit award for highest academic standing. In 2015, he completed a Doctorate of Medicine followed by internal medicine training at Memorial University of Newfoundland. He then went on to complete general cardiology and interventional/structural cardiology training at the University of Ottawa. He then completed a fellowship in structural interventional cardiology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center at Harvard Medical School. He was admitted as a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada in internal medicine in 2019 and in cardiology in 2021. He completed his Master of Science degree in clinical epidemiology in 2022. He joined the University of Ottawa Heart Institute in July 2024.
Research and clinical interests
Dr. Abdel-Razek's clinical interests include transcatheter treatment for coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, and congenital lesions of the heart. His research interests focus on the growing role for transcatheter therapies in cardiac patients. His chief academic interest is focused on resident education in structural heart disease.
