Emilie Serano is the advanced practice nurse for smoking cessation at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, where she participates in patient care, research, and education for patients and healthcare providers.
Background
Emilie received her Bachelor of Nursing degree from the University of Ottawa in 2014. She is currently undertaking her Master of Nursing degree at Charles Sturt University. In 2014, Emilie began working at the Heart Institute in the cardiology unit on H5. She transitioned to smoking cessation in 2020, where her passion for research, education, patient care outcomes, and health promotion grew.
Emilie became the advanced practice nurse for smoking cessation in 2021. She provides clinical expertise to the Ottawa Model for Smoking Cessation and manages the Quit Smoking Program. She has made many improvements to the program, emphasizing initiatives that focus on patient education and quality of care, such as the launch of a weekly nicotine dependence webinar and patient feedback surveys.
