Le Dr Michael Froeschl est cardiologue interventionniste à l’Institut de cardiologie de l’Université d’Ottawa (ICUO) et professeur au Département de médecine de l’Université d’Ottawa.

Parcours

Le Dr Froeschl a obtenu son baccalauréat de l’Université Harvard à Cambridge, au Massachusetts, et son diplôme en médecine de l’Université McGill à Montréal. Il a fait une résidence de trois ans en médecine interne à l’Université de Toronto et une résidence de quatre ans en cardiologie à l’Institut de cardiologie de l’Université d’Ottawa, soit trois ans en cardiologie pour adultes et un an en cardiologie interventionnelle. Admis comme associé au Collège royal des médecins et chirurgiens du Canada en médecine interne en 2003 et en cardiologie en 2005, il est entré au service de l’ICUO en juillet 2006. En 2007, le Collège royal des médecins et chirurgiens du Canada lui a attribué une bourse d’études en pédagogie médicale, grâce à laquelle il a obtenu une maîtrise en enseignement aux professionnels de la santé de la Faculté de médecine de l’Université Maastricht, aux Pays-Bas, en 2011.

Le Dr Froeschl a occupé des postes de direction aux échelles locale, nationale et internationale, dont : directeur du programme de résidence en cardiologie chez l’adulte de l’Université d’Ottawa; président du cours annuel de révision des stagiaires et membre du conseil d’administration de l’Académie de la Société cardiovasculaire du Canada; et membre de plusieurs panels et groupes de travail de l’American College of Cardiology. Enfin, le Dr Froeschl a été reconnu à l’échelle nationale pour ses réalisations en enseignement de la médecine, notamment par le Prix du directeur de programme de l’année du Collège royal des médecins et chirurgiens du Canada; le Certificat de mérite de l’Association canadienne pour l’éducation médicale (ACEM); le prix Mikhail pour l’enseignement médical des Médecins résidents du Canada (MRC); et une médaille du jubilé de diamant pour sa contribution au Canada (formation des futurs cardiologues). 

Intérêts cliniques et de recherche

Dans le domaine clinique, le Dr Froeschl s’intéresse à la cardiologie interventionnelle, aux soins cardiaques intensifs et à la cardiologie générale. En tant qu’universitaire, il s’intéresse tout particulièrement à la pédagogie médicale.
