Dr. Mark Hynes is a Cardiac Anesthesiologist in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Ottawa.

Background

Dr. Hynes was awarded his Medical Degree in 1985 by McGill University in Montreal. After a rotating internship in Regina, Saskatchewan, he returned to McGill to complete a residency in Anesthesia in 1990.

Between 1991 and 1996, Dr. Hynes worked at the newly opened Atlantic Heart Centre in St. John, New Brunswick. During this time, he took a six-month sabbatical to study echocardiography—completing fellowships in Cardiac Anesthesia and Echocardiography at the Heart Institute and at St. Boniface General Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba—before returning to the Heart Institute in 1996.

Research and clinical interests

Dr. Hynes’ main area of interest is transesophageal echocardiography.
