Guo, Ming Hao

Ming Hao Guo, MD, is a surgeon in the Division of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute (UOHI). 

Background

Dr. Guo graduated with honours from the University of Toronto Mississauga, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in molecular biology. He earned his medical degree at University of Toronto in 2016. He completed his residency in cardiac surgery at the UOHI in 2022. During his residency, he also acquired a master’s degree in epidemiology from the University of Ottawa. He joined the UOHI’s Division of Cardiac Surgery in 2022. 

Research and clinical interests

Dr. Guo’s primary research interest involves the management of patients with thoracic aortic aneurysm. Particularly, he is interested in understanding the natural history of thoracic aortic aneurysm, as well as improving outcomes of surgical management for patients with this condition. He is involved with the Treatment In Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm: Surgery vs. Surveillance (TITAN: SvS) trial, for which he is the co-applicant for numerous local and national grants. He is also interested in and involved with research in minimally invasive coronary artery bypass surgery, as a part of the team that initiated the Minimally Invasive versus STernotomy (MIST) trial, which examines the quality of life of patients who underwent a coronary artery bypass graft  via a small thoracotomy versus sternotomy, with a focus on patient-reported outcomes.
